Kingfishers Bridge Tour: A 1 hour 30 minute group tour, limited to 20 people. £15 per person
Our Kingfishers Bridge tour is a wonderful opportunity to get a ‘behind the scenes’ look into life at Kingfishers Bridge Nature Reserve. You will be able to see areas of the Reserve which are normally inaccessible to visitors, and learn more about the species that make Kingfishers Bridge their home. You will find out more about how the habitats at Kingfishers Bridge were created, and why they are so important to the endangered species that have returned to the reserve. There will be plenty of time to ask questions, and once your tour has ended, you will be free to wander through the public areas of the Reserve at your leisure. Over the summer months, we are also able to explore the Wader Meadows and Reedbeds on this tour. |
Dawn Chorus Walks: a 1 hr 30 minute tour limited to 15 people. £18 per person
Our Dawn Chorus Walks give visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility of Kingfishers Bridge at one of the most captivating times of the day. Nothing quite rivals the idyllic moments when the early birdsong wakens the Reserve and welcomes the approaching sunrise and the start of a new day. In Spring and early Summer, The Dawn Chorus Walk will lead visitors around the perimeter of the reserve taking in the banks of the River Cam. It is an ideal time of the day to see Barn owls and appreciate the sounds of Warblers. We hope to also see plenty of Hare and Deer. During the summer months, the tour will incorporate the reed-beds. We will be hoping to see Bittern, and enjoy the sounds of Bearded tits. A warming tea or coffee with our Head Warden at the end of the tour will be an ideal time to ask any questions about the Reserve and the morning’s sightings. James will also be happy to talk about Kingfishers Bridge approach to habitat creation and management, and the species that are returning to make the Reserve their home. Bat Walks: a 1hr 30 minute walk limited to 15 people £18 per person
Our popular Evening Bat Walks are a very engaging and interactive way to explore Kingfishers Bridge after dark. Equipped with Bat Detectors and Thermal Imaging Cameras, you will head out along the Woodland Trails. Without the use of a Bat Detector, Bat calls are too high pitched for the human ear. The Bat Detector will enable us to both hear bats and attempt to identify different bat species according to their calls. The Thermal Imaging Cameras will be linked to a tablet and will allow us to see the bats in flight and witness bat behaviours.
Of course an evening walk might also give us the opportunity to spot Voles, Owls and Hedgehogs.
If weather permits, as you finish your tour the Warden will also set up a Moth Lure when you might also be fortunate enough to spot a Reed Leopard Moth - a scarce species that resides predominantly in East Anglia and is resident at Kingfishers Bridge.
A warming hot chocolate at the end of the tour will be an ideal time to ask any questions about the Reserve and learn more about Bats and why Kingfishers Bridge provides a rich habitat for different Bat species.

Grazing Animal Experience: a 1 hour walk limited to 10 people
A unique opportunity to meet our Asian Water Buffalo - Donald and Dumbo and the rest of the herd - and get up close to our Konik Horses. Both species play an important role in our habitat management programme, and our tour will give you an understanding of how they help us manage the land in a way which optimises habitats for a variety of species. Importantly, by grazing, we are able to reduce the use of machinery for managing pasture and reed-beds on the reserve |
Private Tours can also be booked separately, and can be tailored to your groups specific interests and requirements. We are also delighted to provide specialist tours for Photography Groups, Ornithology Groups, Natural History Groups and other organisations. Please get in touch and let us know how a tour of Kingfisher Bridge Nature Reserve can help enhance your relationship with nature.
