Volunteer with Us

We need your support in various areas of our work. Whether you are interested in regular, long-term commitment, or specific short-term or occasional tasks we are keen to meet you. Some skills and experience will be necessary for some roles, but training will also be given.

Great, you want to get more involved!

As a small organisation, we are always happy to have volunteers, whether it is on a regular basis, or you occasionally have a few hours to spare.  Below are some of the areas where we welcome some extra hands.  If you feel you have some time to offer, please get in touch with us at [email protected].

Environment maintenance
Supporting the management team working outdoors with minimal supervision for full or half days at a time, ideally on regular weekdays. You would be trained to operate tools and machinery to do habitat maintenance, from erecting fences to clearing weeds and trees, mowing and brash clearance, and maintaining our Hides.

Handy-person

Primarily based in the indoor shed and around the Visitor Centre for a few hours at a time, or longer. You could be trained to fabricate bird and bat boxes, and/or vehicle maintenance and metal fabrication.

Working Parties
Occasionally we need a group of people to help clear fallen trees, repair infrastructure and build new wildlife habitat.  This work is particularly suited to team-building and Corporate Social Responsibility schemes.

Photography
We take photos of the Reserve in our day to day work, but none of us are professional photographers.  If you could volunteer the time and have the equipment to capture some wonderful images of the Reserve and the species that live here, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Visitor Centre
Welcome visitors to the Reserve and help to run the Gift Shop.
This work is especially needed at weekends and over school holidays.

Events
Our Seasonal Nature Run series always needs marshals, first-aiders and medal-givers.

Every July we hold our Family Nature Weekends. These provide a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to come and find out more about our work and get involved in some hands-on activities.  Volunteers are essential to the success of these weekends.  We need help with car parking marshals, assistants with owl pellet dissection and pond dipping and much more.  If you would like to be part of this vibrant and rewarding educational weekend please get in touch.
